New Anime Series in 2024. Some notable series started their second seasons, while many more debuted. On this list, you’ll discover your next anime, whether you’re looking for the next hit of a programme you’ve previously watched or whether it’s time to start that series everyone’s been raving about.
Some of these anime have ended, while others are still airing, so you may view them now. The streaming services listed are US-only, but you should be able to get each program elsewhere.
New Anime 9 Series
1. Horimiya
New Anime Series: Horimiya is a regular romance. Hori and Miyamura are the protagonists’ names. Izumi Miyamura is a bashful, awkward high schooler who conceals his piercings and tattoos. Kyouko Hori has a secret: when her mother works long hours, she takes care of the home and her brother.
Izumi and Kyouko become friends and fall in love over their secrets, but unlike many anime, romance isn’t the final objective. Horimiya is a joyful yet often thoughtful anime about adolescent difficulties including being misunderstood, mistreated, or trying to be attractive and popular. Horimiya is a character-driven novel.
2. Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu
It’s hard to find an isekai anime that stands out. Young guy taken to fantasy realm becomes hero. Mushoku Tensei, or Jobless Reincarnation (subtitle: ‘I Will Seriously Try If I Go to Another World’), puts a unique twist on the concept.
A 34-year-old geek dies in a car accident and is reborn in a fantasy realm as a baby. He chooses to do his best in his new life, unlike his former one as a hermit without a job or friends.
This isn’t groundbreaking. Fanservice and other isekai staples remain. Considering this is an oversaturated genre, starting a character from scratch helps immersion and offers numerous ways to tackle the “contemporary person in a mediaeval environment” cliche.
3. Wonder Egg Priority
New Anime Series: Wonder Egg Priority’s weirdness is reminiscent to Paprika by Satoshi Kon. Here, you’re immersed in dreams and recollections. When her closest friend died by suicide, Ai Ohto becomes a hermit. In a dream, a monster instructs her to assist others battle nightmares to restore Koito.
Part character study, part odd voyage through a gorgeous universe. It’s unclear whether Ai can get her companion back or if she can overcome her trauma, but you know something exciting is coming.
4. SK8 The Infinity
SK8 is the first skateboarding animation. It’s as elegant and carefree as skateboarding itself. It centres on the ‘S,’ a hidden skateboarding race in an abandoned mine that draws Reki and Langa.
SK8’s animation, music, and characters have fantastic synergy. Like Netflix’s Great Pretender, it embraces its quirkiness.
5. Yuru Camp season 2
New Anime Series: Rin Shima loves camping, particularly alone. Now Nadeshiko, Aoi, and Chiaki have barged into her life — the former having never camped, the latter starting an afterschool camping group. This isn’t a show about a girl getting sociable; it’s about four people’s hobbies.
Yuru Camp, which translates as Laid-Back Camp, shows what camping means to its protagonists: a glimpse of Mount Fuji, seclusion, and calm. Yuru Camp is a nice relaxing watch.
6. Kemono Jihen
Imagine Tokyo Ghoul without the emotional toll. Monster Incidents is Kemono Jihen. Inugami encounters Dorotabo, a youngster despised for his odd behaviour and pungent stench, in the Japanese countryside. Dorotabo isn’t human, and neither is Inugami. They settle instances involving curses, ghosts, and evil spirits.
Kemono Jihen isn’t about battling the monster of the week, like Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s about a youngster developing his first social interactions and has stunning art and music.
7. Cells At Work! season 2
New Anime Series: Cells At Work! is a wonderful notion that continues giving, with little humans representing physiological functions. We follow a group of cell protagonists as they do their daily responsibilities, similar to an Amazon warehouse. This anime is charming, soothing, and undemanding; it’s a true slice of life.
8. Re:Zero season 2
Many isekai anime include a loser who becomes a cherished hero. Re:Zero is more realistic. Subaru feels he’s been sent to a new world because he’s a hero, but he’s not. Subaru must become a hero to solve Re:time-loop Zero’s riddle.
Season 2 continues Subaru’s transformation from a confident, obnoxious youngster to someone who cares about others. Re:Zero is a heartbreaking and disturbing show, which puts it above other isekai.
9. The Promised Neverland season 2
New Anime Series: The first season of The Promised Neverland centred on orphans who found their safe refuge was not. It was a secretive mansion. Season 2 finds the youngsters explore the unknown outer world.
Despite focusing on a group of youthful protagonists, this anime has lots of complexity in how the characters cope with the realities they learn. The Promised Neverland Season 2 isn’t as amazing as the first, which is a great shonen anime. If you haven’t seen “The Promised Neverland,” you should.
