Zaxby’s chicken fingers & buffalo wings restaurants: American fast-casual restaurant chain Zaxby’s serves chicken wings, chicken fingers, sandwiches, and salads. The business has more than 900 sites, most of them are in the Southern regions of the United States. Although franchisees control the majority of Zaxby’s restaurants, the Zaxby business also owns 123 of them.
History of Zaxby’s
While Zach McLeroy was a student at the University of Georgia, a smaller chicken finger business named Guthrie’s operated in Athens, Georgia. Guthrie’s served as the inspiration for Zaxby’s chicken and Zax Sauce. Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley, boyhood friends, opened the first Zaxby’s in Statesboro, Georgia in March 1990, not far from the Georgia Southern University campus.
As the first CEO who was not a co-founder, Bernard Acoca was announced by Zaxby’s in 2022. Zach McLeroy, the outgoing CEO, remained as Chairman.

In September 1994, the firm established its first restaurant outside of Georgia in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The first growth outside of the southeast of the United States occurred in 2013 when they established facilities in Utah.
In 17 states in the US as of 2019, Zaxby’s has locations. The Oklahoma-based Zaxby’s franchisee stated in December 2019 that it will be closing five of the state’s nine restaurants. Zaxby’s dine-in lobbies have been permanently closed as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic since mid-March 2020, same as other eateries. However, since mid-May, a few places have reopened.
