Borderlands 3 on Switch wouldn’t be a series first. Borderlands: The Prequel and Borderlands 2 came out first on Nintendo consoles as part of the Borderlands Legendary Collection. Even though it could be played on a cartridge, that package was a big one to download and set up. This is typical for larger Switch games that publishers convert so they don’t have to pay more for larger cartridges.
PEGI, the European organization that leaked the Blizzard Arcade Collection, has renewed curiosity. Today, the company briefly mentioned a Nintendo Switch version on listings for Borderlands 3 Director’s Cut and Designer’s Cut, as well as individual DLC: Borderlands: Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, Borderlands 3: Bounty of Blood, Borderlands 3: Guns, Love, and Tentacles, and Borderlands 3: Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot.

The release of Borderlands 3 on the Nintendo Switch was first predicted for April 2021. After it was incorrectly posted to the PEGI website, April’s entry was removed. 2K Games says the game wasn’t destined for the platform. Today’s allusions to a December 1, 2022 Nintendo Switch version are disappeared.
Borderlands 3 may launch as a Cloud-only edition to take use of more powerful hardware, like Hitman 3 and Kingdom Hearts. In Japan, where internet is stable, cloud versions are popular. Poor infrastructure in North America may lead to mediocre performance, as 2K Games experienced with Borderlands 3 on Stadia, but that hasn’t prevented publishers from trying. Capcom will broadcast Resident Evil Village and other games on Switch.

Borderlands 3’s powerful hardware and online play aren’t among the Switch’s strengths, but it would be good to see another entry in a popular game hit Nintendo’s platform and allow inexpensive online play. It’s still not too late to release Borderlands 3 on Switch. Options benefit everyone.
