How Guaranteed Lucky Trades Work

The act of trading with a Lucky Friend is not the only way to ensure a Lucky Trade. On September 5th, 2018, a promotion was introduced to lure back inactive players to the game. However there are strict requirements for this trade to take place including:

  • At least one of the Pokémon being traded must have been caught during the years 2016 or 2017.
  • The Trainer who is initiating the Lucky Trade must have participated in fewer than 15 trades where at least one party was guaranteed to receive a Lucky Pokémon (either as the sender or the recipient).
  • The Trainer who is receiving the Lucky Pokémon does not affect this trade, although it will add to their own count of guaranteed Lucky Trades.
  • It is currently unknown whether Lucky Trades resulting from being Lucky Friends count towards this limit, but some reports suggest that they do.

Trading Poke-mon offers the potential of turning any one of them into Lucky Pokemon with approximately 5% odds. The chances of this happening increase the longer it has been owned; therefore, longer ownership increases its likelihood.

  • Pokemon trading presents two outcomes for its participants; either they remain ordinary, or become unexpectedly Lucky.
  • To increase the chance of getting a lucky Pokemon, trades can be made with lucky friends. Becoming lucky friends occurs at approximately 1.1% when interacting with new people each day.

As soon as a Pokemon becomes lucky, its upgrade cost decreases by 50% using Stardust. When combined with its cost reduction for being purified, upgrading a Lucky Purified Pokemon becomes significantly less expensive compared to upgrading other types.
