Epic Games Introduces New Programming Language to Replace C and C++
This functional, logic-based language boasts an unconventional static sort architecture with a declarative programming language in an open-source package (similar to Curry and Mercury).
Verse poetry is an effort to make language more vibrant through a communal perspective. Current web3 languages include Clarity, Solidity, Curry, Mercury and Rust; Verse too is part of this grouping.
Verse is one of many programming languages available to create websites compliant with Web3 specifications, and now it can be one of them.
But what sets Verse apart from the rest?
Epic Games’ Fortnite team is using code to explore the metaverse. Unreal Engine creator, Epic Games, has created Verse – an open-source web3 programming language similar to that of the metaverse. All documentation, technical specs and development tools will be made freely available online so programmers, artists and designers can use this free-source language.
Interoperability and fast transactions are two scalable features we’d like to include in Verse, similar to Curry and Mercury. As a functional logic language, Verse belongs to the functional logic family but has its own static type system (types are first-class values). Because nothing is ever judged until it’s “ready,” poetry may be less stringent than other languages due to call-by-value capabilities which allow functions to be called before their arguments have values. Verse provides time-saving alternatives to nomads’ inefficient practices
Epic Games’ Simon Peyton Jones, Tim Sweeney, Lennart Augustsson, Koen Claessen, Ranjit Jhala and Olin Shivers give a presentation outlining the five core concepts that Verse is built upon.
Verse’s primary mission is to foster social interactions in a shared 3D environment in real-time. Additionally, the statement promotes freedom of the market with transparent rules and no wasteful expenditure by businesses.
Designers, artists, and coders can use open-source tools.
Verse is striving to provide interoperable content through the use of operational standards from many game engines like Unity and live updates of current code. SlashData reports a record number of Web3 developers (60% or more) have joined their business last year; however this represents only a tiny fraction of the 31.1 million software engineers globally as of the first quarter of 2022. Furthermore, there is little documentation available regarding programming languages used to develop smart contracts on Solana and Ethereum Blockchains.
Solidity is the leading web3 language on the Ethereum blockchain, boasting more than 4,000 designers using it exclusively each month despite Rust’s imminent debut. Combining Rust with blockchain and cryptographic currency simplifies development – that is why Clarity was created – to allow dApps and smart contracts to flourish within this Bitcoin Web3 environment.
