Ryan Kyle Coogler was born on May 23, 1986, in Oakland, California, to political activist Joselyn and juvenile hall parole counsellor Ira Coogler. Ryan has two siblings, Keenan and Noah. He lived in Oakland until he was eight years old. After that, he relocated to Richmond, California.
When Ryan was younger, he enjoyed football and track. He attended Saint Mary’s College High School in Berkeley, California, for his education. Ryan was able to attend school because of a football scholarship.
