Anthony Levandowski is French American self-driving car engineer born on March 15, 1980. He has become widely renowned for his efforts to advance this technology. In 2016, along with Lior Ron, Claire Delaunay, and Don Burnette he cofounded Ottomotto LLC with them as a company for autonomous trucks. Uber Technologies, Inc. eventually purchased Otto. Prior to founding Otto, he contributed significantly to Google’s self-driving car program from 2009 until 2016. As co-founder and technical lead on Waymo from 2009 until 2016, he also founded Pronto trucking business in 2018. In October 2018, Pronto became the first company in America to drive across America in an autonomous car. Yet at The Information’s 2019 AV Summit, Levandowski said that a fundamental breakthrough in AI is necessary for self-driving car technology to progress.
In 1998 Levandowski attended the University of California, Berkeley to study Industrial Engineering and Operation Research and earned both his bachelor and master degree. While still in school he launched an intranet service from his basement.
