KissAnime was an anime-focused file streaming website that provided users with links and embedded videos to illegally stream or download movies and TV series for free.
KissAnime was a sister site to KissManga, another manga viewing website. According to KissAnime, their streaming anime service was one of the world’s largest.
According to TorrentFreak, these sites attracted millions of visitors and KissAnime was once “the most frequented pirate site in the world.”
After 8 years (the.com domain was registered in 2012 and.ru domain in 2016), KissManga and its website were shut down on September 14, 2020 due to copyright complaints and the threat of new Japanese laws against online piracy.
In 2017, FUNimation, a US company, sent the site another subpoena stating it was for “distributing copyrighted content at an enormous scale for commercial gain.”
