Blizzard’s 2024 Untitled Survival Game Development Staff Has Doubled: The number of people working on the Untitled Survival Game that Blizzard is hard at work on is said to have doubled in the past year.
Blizzard CEO Mike Ybarra said, “The team has doubled in size this year, and we’re eager to grow it even more in the new year!” in a blog post reflecting on the previous 12 months.
He also said that the game was a brand-new intellectual property, the company’s first since Overwatch in 2016. He also said that Dan Hay, who directed the Far Cry series but left Ubisoft in 2021 after working there for ten years, is in charge of making Far Cry 5.

In a blog post earlier this year, Blizzard talked about their plans for a survival game that didn’t have a name yet. You can tell it’s intended for PC and “console” and will feature “heroes we have yet to meet, stories we have yet to hear, and adventures we have yet to live” by reading that post. Unlimited potential is just waiting to be tapped into. Along with the beginning, we saw two pieces of art that showed a hunter in a cap and armor and a mix of modern and fantasy settings. But it’s still not clear what these pictures have to do with the game.
Ybarra also mentioned playing “several hours” with the team at the time, suggesting it was already in a playable condition and has likely advanced more since then.
Ybarra also talked about the company’s ongoing efforts to change its culture after a series of reports last year showed widespread discrimination, harassment, and toxic behavior. He pointed out that over the past year, the number of women and non-binary people working at Blizzard has increased from 22% to 25%, and the number of people from underrepresented ethnic groups has increased from 34% to 36%.
